The 2110 Centre for Gender Advocacy’s third annual Summer Nights Film Screening Series is underway, with screenings happening every Tuesday of this month at 7:30 PM, at 1500 de Maisonneuve Ouest, suite 404.
Tomorrow evening – August 2nd – we will be screening Waking Up To Rape, a documentary film about women’s experiences dealing with the criminal justice system in the wake of their sexual assaults. Following three women from different backgrounds, Waking Up To Rape brings a strong racial and class analysis to the subject of the ways in which contemporary western justice systems fail and re-victimize survivors of sexual assault.
After Waking Up To Rape, we will be viewing and discussing a series of public service announcements, gathered from several popular education campaigns. We can learn a lot about societal attitudes towards sexual assault by talking about the ways in which it’s presented in contemporary media – join us for the discussion, and of course, the free snacks!
